The short version
- No account required. We never ask for your name, email or a password.
- No tracking. We use no analytics, advertising or third-party tracking SDKs, and we never track you across other apps or websites.
- Clips self-destruct. Shared clips are deleted automatically after they are first viewed, or after a time limit you choose (at most 30 days).
1. Who we are
ClipShot (“ClipShot”, “we”, “us”) is a screenshot and screen-recording sharing service, available as an app for iOS and macOS together with the website clipshot.io. This Privacy Policy explains what information we process when you use ClipShot, why we process it, and the rights you have.
The data controller responsible for your information is:
2. What we collect and why
When you capture a clip and share it through ClipShot, we process the following:
The clip you upload (image, video or file)
To host the clip and serve it through your share link. A clip contains whatever you choose to capture, so it may include personal information you put into it.
Original file name, file type and file size
To store your clip and serve it back correctly.
A device identifier generated by the app
To associate a clip with your installation of the app. It is a random identifier and is not linked to your real-world identity.
Expiry settings, view count and first-viewed time
To enforce the self-destruct rules you choose and to show whether a clip has already been viewed.
Server logs (such as IP address and request time)
Kept for a limited period for security, abuse prevention and keeping the service running.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number or any login credentials (ClipShot has no accounts); payment information; advertising identifiers; or your location. We do not use tracking cookies.
3. How we use your information
We use the information above only to:
- provide the clip-sharing service and deliver your share links;
- enforce the expiry / self-destruct rules you set;
- keep ClipShot secure, prevent abuse and diagnose problems.
We do not sell your information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not build profiles about you.
4. Legal bases for processing (GDPR)
Where the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a service you request (Art. 6(1)(b)) — to receive, store and serve the clips you share.
- Our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to keep the service secure and operational, including server logs and abuse prevention.
5. Who can see your clips
A clip can be opened by anyone who has its share link, until that clip expires. You decide who you send the link to. Each link uses a long, random, unguessable token and is never listed publicly.
We do not share your data with third parties for their own purposes. We disclose information only:
- to the infrastructure providers that host ClipShot on our behalf;
- where required to comply with the law or a valid legal request, or to protect our rights and the safety of users.
6. How long we keep your data — clips self-destruct
Clips are designed to be ephemeral:
- First-view clips are removed once they have been viewed (the default).
- Time-based clips are removed when the time limit you set expires (a maximum of 30 days).
Once a clip expires, its file and record are removed from active use and purged. Server logs are retained only for a limited period and then deleted.
7. Where your data is stored
Your clips and the related data described above are stored and processed on servers located within the European Economic Area (EEA).
8. Security
Clips are kept in non-public storage and are only reachable through their unguessable share token. All traffic to clipshot.io is encrypted with HTTPS, and clips are deleted automatically on expiry, which limits how long any data exists. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
9. Your privacy rights (EU/EEA — GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. You may also lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet, datatilsynet.no) or with your local supervisory authority.
Because ClipShot has no accounts and we do not tie clips to your identity, we usually need the clip’s share link or token (and, where relevant, your app device identifier) in order to locate and action a request. Contact us at privacy@clipshot.io.
10. California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the following applies. The categories of personal information we collect are those described in section 2 — essentially the content you upload, a random device identifier, and internet/usage information such as an IP address in server logs — and we collect them to provide the service.
We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising. You have the right to know what we collect, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make a request, contact privacy@clipshot.io.
11. Children’s privacy
ClipShot is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and we will reflect significant changes in the app or on this page.
